Antwaun Sargent - Nowness

NOWNESS x ANTWAUN SARGENT is a short documentary portrait of New York-based art critic, writer and curator Antwaun Sargent.

Shot between Brooklyn and the Lower East Side, the film follows Sargent as he reflects on photography as one of the defining forces of contemporary identity — shaping how we see ourselves, how we are represented, and who gets to be seen.

The piece explores Sargent’s curatorial practice as an extension of his writing: a visual form of argument, advocacy and cultural criticism. Through his work, Sargent champions photographers and artists whose voices have historically been overlooked, ignored or excluded because of race, gender, geography or time, bringing their concerns into major cultural spaces.

Short Synopsis: A short portrait of Antwaun Sargent exploring photography, representation and his commitment to championing artists and voices that have not always been given space.
